This region has long been a favourite of filmmakers, from the sweeping battle scenes of Braveheart to the atmospheric Glen Etive shots in Skyfall. Fans of Outlander will instantly recognise the rugged terrain that shapes so many of the show’s journeys, while Harry Potter enthusiasts can retrace moments filmed at the Glenfinnan Viaduct and other nearby landmarks. With each turn of the road revealing another dramatic backdrop, this part of the Highlands feels like stepping directly into the scenes from the big screen.
Three of our hotels are ideally located within this landscape. The historic Ballachulish Hotel offers lochside views fit for a period drama; the relaxed, contemporary Isles of Glencoe Hotel sits right on the water with panoramic views; and Kingshouse Hotel, one of Scotland’s oldest inns, rests at the edge of Rannoch Moor - an unforgettable location featured in countless productions. Each hotel pairs Highland warmth with quietly luxurious comfort, offering an ideal base for exploring the region.
From these three hotels, visiting the area’s most iconic film locations is easy. Scenic drives, walking trails, and well-placed viewpoints make it easy to plan a day - or an entire stay - around the movies and shows you love. Whether you’re standing on the atmospheric moors where James Bond once drove, riding the Jacobite Steam Train like Harry Potter, or discovering the landscapes that inspired Braveheart and Outlander, you’ll be immersed in the grandeur of the Highlands at every moment. At the end of each day, you can return to a warm welcome, good food, and views every bit as breathtaking as those on screen.
